I was curious to see how the distribution of minutes played differed between teams and put together a visualization to make the data more easily compared. Some teams, for example Argentina, have a core set of players which get significantly more time on the field than the rest of the squad. Other teams, for example Colombia, appears to use a larger part of their squad.
Each player is represented as a colored square. The color has been assigned based on minutes played: read means more minutes played and blue means less minutes played. Hover over each square to show additional information. The countries have been sorted from wider distribution to narrower distribution.
